Aurora has a unique motif woven throughout its years of existence: light. Originally called McCarty Mills and Hartford, the founders of Aurora changed its name when they were visited by the atmostpherical phenomenon Aurora Borealis- or “Northern Lights”- during one of their festival nights. The word aurora has come to mean the dawn or first light. Aurora was one of the first communities in America to adopt all-electric street lighting. Now they refer to themselves as the “City of Lights”.
It's evident that Aurora has a history with light, but does Aurora know the Light that matters? The prophet Isaiah speaks of this Light, his words strikingly appropriate for Aurora: “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shined.” Aurora K-Life is a parachurch ministry focused on discipling every single kid in Aurora and its surrounding community. We train local college students and young professionals throughout the year to minister to the children by the transforming power of God's love. Our hope is that each youth, then, will grow to be a light not only to his or her family but also to their community. By our words and deeds, we want to be a beacon for the city of Aurora, that they would see the great Light and be transformed by His power!
